Q: Allah created Adam from clay and before him He created the angels. Iblis (Satan) whom Allah created from fire was among the angels, so why was Satan created from fire? What were the angels created from?
A: It is authentically reported from Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) in a Hadith narrated on the authority of `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) saying: Angels were created from light, Jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire, and Adam was created from that which you have been told.
