them to say: Guide us to the Straight Way. After teaching them how to praise Him, glorify His praises, acknowledge that they are His Slaves and that He is the Only One sought for help, Allah taught them to say:
Guide us to the Straight Way.
The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace , not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (i.e. those who knew the Truth, but did not follow it) nor of those who went astray (i.e. those who did not follow the Truth out of ignorance and error).
The Straight Way is Allah's religion: It is Islam, faith, useful knowledge, and righteous deeds; it is the way of those upon whom Allah conferred His blessings out of the scholars whose actions matched up to their knowledge i.e. the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), those who followed them in righteousness, as well as the preceding Messengers and their followers.
And whoso obey Allâh and the Messenger (Muhammad ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allâh has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqûn (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr AsSiddîq (ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﷲ ﻋﻨﻪ), the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are!
And the foremost to embrace Islâm of the Muhâjirûn (those who migrated from Makkah to AlMadinah) and the Ansâr (the citizens of AlMadinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhâjirûn ) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allâh is wellpleased with them as they are wellpleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.
And the (faithful) slaves of the Most Gracious (Allâh) are those who walk on the earth in humility and sedateness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness. And those who spend the night in worship of their Lord, prostrate and standing. And those who say: "Our Lord! Avert from us the torment of Hell. Verily its torment is ever an inseparable, permanent punishment." Evil indeed it (Hell) is as an abode and as a place to rest in.
Except those who repent and believe (in Islâmic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds; for those, Allâh will change their sins into good deeds, and Allâh is OftForgiving, Most Merciful. And whosoever repents and does righteous good deeds; then verily, he repents towards Allâh with true repentance.
